Scope

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2018. This edition constitutes a technical revision.

This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:

a) updated communication protocol;

b) distinction between services (Clause 6 and Clause 7) and applications (Annex B);

c) ComID harmonization: The new/updated ComID numbering scheme for this document to maintain backward compatibility is as follows: new ComIDs ranges from 1000 to 9999, and 000 to 999 will remain for the old ones;

d) MCG and GCG service access point.

This part of IEC 61375 establishes the specification for the communication between the on-board subsystems and the ground subsystems.

The communication system, interfaces and protocols are specified as a mobile communication function, using any available wireless technology.

This document provides requirements in order to:

a) select the wireless network on the basis of the quality of service (QoS) parameters requested by the application;

b) allow either train control and monitoring system (TCMS) applications or on-board multimedia and telematic services (OMTS) applications, or both, which are installed on-board and which communicate through the on-board communication network, to have a remote access to applications running on ground installations;

c) allow applications running on ground installations to have a remote access to the TCMS applications or OMTS applications running on-board.

This document specifies further requirements which allow the applications running on-board and the applications running on ground to connect to each other applying the virtual/functional addressing mechanism specified by IEC 61375-2-3 and exchanging application data sets produced or consumed by the on-board functions implemented in the devices attached to the TCN network.

Furthermore, this document covers the security requirements in order to grant the access only to authenticated and authorised applications and to allow encryption of exchanged data.
