Worldwide, a large number of road and rail vehicles are used to transport goods that require refrigerated conditions, such as fresh fruit, meat, flowers, vaccines, medical devices and chemicals. To ensure safe transport and to preserve their quality and value, these goods must be kept at constant and controlled temperatures, through the use of suitable vehicles equipped with refrigerated systems.
SSH EN 16440-2:2023 “Test methodologies for refrigerated equipment installed in transport vehicles – Part 2: Refrigerated equipment”.
It defines the test methodologies applicable to refrigerated equipment installed in insulated transport vehicles, such as trucks, trailers, trailers, other transport vehicles and wagons. Thermal systems operate at low temperatures and preserve goods using homogeneous mixtures with a lower melting point than that of the food products being transported. These devices are used in particular for the transport of foods such as ice cream.
The charging of eutectic elements from the liquid to the solid phase can be carried out by means of a compressor/condenser unit mounted on the vehicle, or by means of a stationary system, directly or indirectly. Eutectic refrigeration devices are equipped with the necessary components for charging, transmission and cooling, as well as with temperature control systems.
The SSH EN 16440-2:2023 standard contributes significantly to ensuring the safest possible transport of refrigerated goods.
