Scope

This document specifies the minimum quality and safety requirements of Areca catechu seed [the dried ripe seed of Areca catechu L. (Fam. Palmae)].
This document applies to Areca catechu seed that are sold and used as natural medicines in international trade, including Chinese materia medica (whole medicinal materials) and decoction pieces derived from this plant. Processed decoction pieces of Areca catechu seed is not applied in this document.
