WORLD STANDARDS DAY 2025

“Shared Vision for a Better World”

On October 14, World Standards Day is marked, which this year emphasizes the UN Sustainable Development Goals, cooperation to achieve these goals as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This day is celebrated in honor of the hundreds of thousands of experts around the world who voluntarily contribute to the drafting and adoption of technical standards, for the benefit of the development and well-being of society.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to solve the problems of social inequality, develop a sustainable economy and slow down climate change. Their achievement requires broad cooperation between the public and private sectors, as well as the use of all possible means, including international standards and conformity assessment.

The experience of the global pandemic has shown the necessity to address the SDGs in a comprehensive manner, to strengthen our societies and to make them more resilient and equitable. This shared mission to achieve the goals highlights the importance of the SDGs in rebuilding a fairer and more sustainable world. In this process, standards are more important than ever as tools in the function of fulfilling these major international objectives.

By collaborating, we provide ideas for concrete solutions to face the challenges of sustainability.

In this spirit of collaboration, we are engaged in a multi-year journey of World Standards Day, to show the many ways in which international standards contribute to the advancement of the SDGs.

By collaborating, we influence the acceleration of the 2030 Agenda, with standards for the SDGs and with our “shared vision for a better world.”

On this important day, the General Directorate of Standardization (GDS) expresses its gratitude and appreciation to all members of the Technical Committees operating under it, without whose contribution the adoption and publication of National Standards would not be possible.
