Cigarettes — Determination of the aerobic biodegradability of cigarette filters in seawater — Method by analysis of evolved carbon dioxide

Scope

This document specifies a method for the determination of the biodegradability of cigarette filters in seawater based on carbon dioxide production. The test simulates the biodegradation processes which take place in a (natural) marine environment.
This document applies to both smoked and non-smoked cigarette filters.
NOTE This test method can also be used to test other product filters intended for smoking when using the appropriate smoking regime, as well as non-smoked cigarette filters.
