The Adaptation Layer specification should enable M-Bus based application providers to transport
their radio messages over an alternative radio access technology. The adaptation layer is an
intermediate layer between EN13757 higher layers (APL, AFL, TPL) and the L2 of the new radio
protocol. It shall define SDU (Service Data Unit) and PCI (protocol Control Information) fields in
order to exchange PDU (Protocol data Unit) with L2 of the new radio protocol. The Adaptation
Layer interface should be agnostic to the underlying radio technologies.
Examples of use of the common interface by radio protocols (e.g. LoRaWAN) will be described
in informative annexes.
