This Part of this European Standard specifies the procedure for determining the particle density of filler by means of a pyknometer. The test procedure applies to natural and artificial fillers used in concrete and road construction. It is a general method, which may be used on materials which are not currently considered to be fillers in every country. The particle density of filler is used to convert volume percentages into mass percentages for concrete and asphalt mixture calculations. Furthermore it is applied to calculate the percentage of voids in filler (see prEN 1097-4).
